my powerbook g4 fell from the fridge and looks ugly. Appears to have no damage but it looks awful, the corner is dented and wont close, the battery cover wont fit anymore as the battery is pushed out. apple wants $610 to fix it with no guarantees. Someone told me I could take it to a 3rd party and have them put a used case on it, who would this 3rd party be, any suggestions?
thanks

Re: G4 Fell
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 6:05 PMHave you thought of knitting a nice cover for it.... something in a machintosh gray wool.... or maybe a butch argyle...
Seriously, if I were faced by your problem, I would start checking out those ads at the back of MacWorld magazine... those selling refurbished macs... contact them and inquire.... just a thought....

I have no helpful suggestions..., just had to reach out to someone who's had the misfortune of actually experiencing what has to be just the MOST terrifying worst case scenario since i've had my PowerBook.....
I daily have cold sweats about dropping MY baby.................................
Not to be funny.., but tell me where to send the flowers........................... -

Wed, June 21, 2006 - 3:07 AMDidn't one of the early macs have a fix that told the used to drop the mac from about a foot... it think it was to seat the processor better..
It second the motion about looking for a refurbished one..

Re: G4 Fell
Mon, June 26, 2006 - 1:23 PMWhat kind of PowerBook G4 is it? (Titanium, 12", 15", 17'?)... I've fixed many a dropped PB - it's a lot of work but can generally be done! If you're in the bay area drop me a line and we can work something out.
