Hey All !!
Well, it happened. I finally ran out of space on my Mac harddrive. I had 80 gigs and managed to use all but 1gig. I still have plenty of things to do with it, so I was wondering if anyone had some advice, suggestions on an external hard drive ? Also, are there certain things I should/should not keep on it due to accessability ? my understanding is that it takes longer to access things on the external hard-drive ? Is that true ? What is a good brand ? Are they reliable ?
All information is useful. Thanks,
Peace,
B.E.

Re: Advice - External Hard Drive
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 8:07 PMdon't buy the USB hype. Firewire is the only way to go...

Re: Advice - External Hard Drive
Sat, January 5, 2008 - 12:03 AMI would go with a drive that has a Firewire and USB port, that way you can use it on any computer. USB is more universal, but Firewire is the way to go if you are connecting to a Mac. There are many small drives up to 160GB for around $99 to $130. These have 3.5" drives and run on the power of the computer, so no additional powercords to carry around.
OWC makes a drive that has Firewire and USB: OWC Mercury On The Go Pro

or
The next is from Iomega: 120GB HiSpeed USB2.0/Firewire

Good luck! -

Re: Advice - External Hard Drive
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 12:11 AMOk guys,
I finally got one. I got a 320Gig external Harddrive by WesternDigital with both a USB/Firewire port. Now I need some help with it getting it to do what I want ?
My hopes are to:
- Move specific files to the external drive to access them only from the external harddrive. (e.g. videos, photos and my iphoto library and maybe even my itunes library)
- I would also like to create an account for my roomate so that he can also use my computer and store all his info on the harddrive ONLY!!
Do I need to partition the hard drive ? What is the best way to accomplish this ? Can it be done ?
Again, any information is helpful. You can also feel free to e/m me your AIM or yahoo Screename and we can chat about it. That is if you have the time. My screenames are:
AIM: boyelektric
Yahoo: boyelektric24
Thanks in advance for the help.
Peace,
B.E.

Sat, April 12, 2008 - 9:16 AMThanks man. Wish you had posted this sooner though. I ended up buying a western digital a few months ago. I have problems with it "warming" up i guess. I transfered my itunes library to it and now when i play music it skips sometimes. oh well.... -
