What is/are your Mac(s) named?

topic posted Fri, July 23, 2004 - 4:02 AM by  macboyx
I have many friends who have bought Macs since I have made the switch and started proclaiming the word, my only complaint...most of them have never named their Macs, it's just so odd to me...what are yours named and why did u name it that?

Mine are

G5 - This Charming Mac (after the song This Charming Man by the Smiths)
PowerBook G4 - Lil' Bandit (after Snake's car in the Simpsons
iPod - Celestine (after a Kirsty MacColl song)

Ooh, love the topic. i always make up special rituals for naming my Mac.
i started out early with a Macintosh II ci - it was named Lingo Queen (because i did a lot of Director) and i called his printer Mrs. Applepie.
So they were a gay male computer/lesbian printer couple.

After that I got myself a 7200 Powermac, that I called Mr. Apple-pi (with 'pi' being the Greek sign).
Now I have a G3 bronze/lombardi powerbook that has 3 hard drives. I gave them Dutch apple-fruit names:
      Jonagold Apple
      Elstar Apple
      and
      Rotten Apple
the last one is the HD that has a PC emulator on it
      :-)

This year i got myself a small art grant so i hope to be purchasing a second hand 15" G4 powerbook - I don't know a name for it yet, but I am thinking of making its naming into a competition.
Like I do every time I get a new Mac - all my friends participate and he/she/it who thinks of the most wonderful name wins..... an apple!
      (the fruit)...!
      Fun!

Let's see, I've always named my computers. The last couple were Whoreus (the first Whore-us was a Blue I-Mac, and then I got a iBook, and dumped the hard drive onto Whoreus and kept the name) My Current iBook G4 was a replacement unit that Apple gave me when Whoreus died the many deaths of CPU hell... He became known as Ah-Men. Ok, so I have a thing for puns and Egyptian gods...

I have always called my iBook Pedro. Now why is that? I haven't a clue. Just a name that popped into my head. Being a Spanish teacher, I'm always hearing and seeing that name in class activities. It just stuck. The iPod hasn't ever been named. Maybe you could give me some suggestions? In speaking of names, my cars have some interesting names. My Miata has always been called Roxanne since the day I got her. She is named after the song "Roxanne, Roxanne" by UTFO. My Geo Metro is always called the Ghetro because it is just so ghetto. I mean I have to hit the dash just to get the a/c to work, plus it has a hole in the muffler. LOL

Finally decided on names for my iPod and iShuffle. Decided to continue with the "phony element" theme. thus my iPod is Dilithum, and my iShuffle is Latinum.

My iBook G4 is presently the "James L. Vaughn Memorial iBook" (since the payouts on a couple of my dad's insurance policies basically paid for it); however, corporate naming rights are just around the corner, and I'll listen to competitive bids. The "Jungle Fever Barbie Dream House" is a current possibility (on account of all the "Barbie clothes" I've bought for it in the space of less than three months.).

My iPod is simply "the F-Word" (much like its owner is to some ex-boyfriends and their new boyfriends)

BTW, this is my first post.

G4 with two harddrives, one partioned into two halves:
    PacBell Park
    McCovey Cove
    Willie Mays Plaza

    iPod: Giants' Dugout

oh... did I mention I'm a Giants fan?
(yes, I know it's now SBC Park. I'm one of those die-hards that refuse to call it anything but PacBell... well, that's not quite true. I've mellowed a bit over the season... now I call it simply The Park)

The computers on my home network are named named after "Peanuts" characters -- I guess I'm just dorky that way.

My Mac stuff is as follows:

    eMac: Linus
    iBook: Rerun (Linus' little brother)
    iPod: Schroeder
    ext. HD: Marcie

I've named my iPod Astro, you know, like the dog on The Jetsons. We'll see if it sticks. (I'm still working on a name for my iBook. Heh, maybe it can be Rosie, if I'm sticking with the theme...)

My iBook G3 is named Vestibule, the PowerMac G4 was Jed, but it just didn't fit so it recently became Atlas.

The new work PowerBook G4 is Aquatic (I got it right as the swimming events were ending at the Athens Olympic Games). My iPod is named Rusty and it's the best boyfriends ever.

I run 2 networks. At home they are Anubis (Beige G3), Thoth (B&W G3), and Isis (Power Mac 7500 - G3). At work - Einstein (iMac DV) and Edison (Grape iMac). The PeeCees on the networks stick with the same naming conventions - gods and scientists.
